Best of 2014: My picks for Best Filipino Volleyball Players and Moments

TOP VOLLEYBALL MOMENTS FOR 2014

1. Ateneo’s heartstrong championship campaign – I’m quite sure no volleyball event in the Philippines can beat this one. This was done via a stepladder and it was like doing the impossible. Coach Tai’s happy, unity and heart strong defied the odds and the team really came together at the right time. Honestly, their championship story was like a fairytale. I guess it’s really destiny.

2. 21,000 crowd in the UAAP Finals and ABS-CBN Channel 2 Coverage – It was such a milestone. I’m sure that Game 4 broke all volleyball media records in the Philippines.

3. RP Team Formation – Finally, the best of the best in one team under the best coach in the country.

4. Petron’s Superliga Championship – It was long overdue. I mean come on, Petron has the most fans in the league. They’ve been waiting for this one. They really earned this one.

5. FEU’s V-League championship – It was quite unexpected but it was nice to see the underdogs winning it. The first is always the sweetest.

6. Team Philippines’ ASEAN stint – Our first podium finish in 9 years. This team made me proud because out of all the teams who joined, they’re the youngest and they made history by being the first team to win a set against Thailand in so many years.

7. PVF vs POC – The never-ending battle. I hope this will end soon. We need to have a team to train for the Asian volleyball even which we will host.

8. UST’s Beach Volleyball championship – Rookies lording the competition. That’s the story.

10. Ateneo in the Men’s and Juniors’ UAAP Volleball Finals – It was such a welcome sight, especially for me as an Ateneo, to see them enter the Finals and try as hard as they can to beat the volleyball powerhouse in their respective divisions. Although they both lost, I’m sure the whole Ateneo community was happy with their performance. Will they win it soon? Let’s see.
